Interview with the Director
An intimate conversation to provide insight into the development of Riverfront InterArts
Why did you choose to pursue presenting professional arts and culture?
Humans have the incredible ability to use ingenuity, work past perceived boundaries, tell stories, present history to the best of their ability, and create something new and/or express themselves based on what they experience - with and without technological aid. I have always been passionate about presenting talents that demonstrate these abilities and creating venue for those who can teach them while equitably engaging community.
It is an honour to be able to present and commission works and educational opportunities with artists and educators. Focussed research, care, and consideration go into Riverfront InterArts' decision-making processes.
Why did you choose Windsor-Essex?
Storytelling is a vital, much loved tradition that is relatable to every culture and generation: who are we, how did we get here, where are we going.
Our region has a very diverse mosaic of ethnicities, generations, and cultures and we will continue celebrating and sharing the teachings from our ancestors, contemporary voices, and beyond.
Why the name Riverfront InterArts (RFIA)?
At its core, I wanted this organization to belong to everyone – resident, tourist, passer-by, historian, quiet person who stands at the back of the room, young at heart, etc.
Through personal research and consultation with community members throughout the region, I came to realize the many possibilities for this organization.
Is there anything else we should know?
All of our professional presentations and educational opportunities involve a certain level of quality and our community is always considered at the forefront of our events.
As well, Riverfront InterArts strives to be a forward-thinking and environmentally responsible presenter by limiting our use of printed materials and consistently assessing our organization's carbon footprint. Information about our events and organization can be found on our website and communicated via email. We ask audience members to join us in this mission by being considerate of the environment, recycling, and disposing of waste appropriately.
